Tea Party

Our daughter, the patriot!!

Thank you BB!!

Little House in the Big Woods

"Inside" the little house

Some topics we are discussing: Louis Pasteur, rabies, bacteria, vaccinations and the nervous system. I have many goals with this book, but one is for everyone to appreciate how hard the pioneers worked.

Rowing Lentil

What an idealistic looking town! Among the people mentioned was the Ice Man. So, we read through, Grandpa Tell Me Tales, The Ice Man. Everyone got a kick out of that. So far, we have had discussions on the American flag, wars, and taste buds. "Old Sneep" is an unforgettable character in Lentil, but you wouldn't want to act like him!

Instead of a smooth fat minnow, Mr. Jeremy landed

little Jack Sharp the stickleback, covered with spines!

Peter did not seem to be enjoying himself:

The lettuces certainly were very fine.

Peter's coat and shoes

were plainly to be seen upon the scarecrow, topped with an old tam-o-shanter of Mr. McGregor's.

A white cat was staring at some gold-fish

Beatrix Potter Party

After reading most of the books in the Beatrix Potter collection, we had a small party. As you can see, we found many of the storybook friends to join us. We tried to include some food from a few stories: "butterfly" sandwiches (Tale of Jeremy Fisher), sandwiches with blackberry jam (Peter Rabbit), nuts (Tale of Squirrel Nutkin), cheese (to catch those Two Bad Mice), and carrots (Tale of the Fierce Bad Rabbit). Later, I would like to go back and do nature study from most every book. There are so many animals, plants, flowers, etc. mentioned. The vocabulary is pretty challenging too. I also found myself laughing more than I thought, there are things the kids didn't even catch-these books are really classics-for all ages.
