Reading update, life update

Our latest reading--

Things have been very HECTIC since we moved.  Snow, rain, and mud, mud MUD have made moving in December even more challenging.  A couple of the kids caught a virus, so that slowed us down too.  We still have plenty more to do, going back and forth between houses (we will own two, it needs some work before going back on the market).  We are downsizing after thirteen years and eight kids (as well as 17 years of homeschooling).  This presents many challenges, especially in the book area.  The new house doesn't have built in bookcases.  I know homeschool moms can relate to this.  So many decisions, sorting through which books to keep, save for grandchildren, donate to thrift stores, save to sell, and finally, after going through several thousand, throw into a bonfire!  I am sort of regretting that year I frequented the Bargain Barn (books 20 cents apiece)!  Then, there are the old school papers, workbooks, pictures! memories for me!  I wish I was not so sentimental. It is hard to throw things away.  I know I can't keep everything!  This is going to be a longggggg process.

I hope to have pictures once we are settled.

She Didn't Give Up

Patience and perseverance was finally rewarded. "Mom, I hand fed a Chickadee!" Watching her day after day was tough. Although I encouraged her, I never thought it would happen. Well, I learned a lesson too. I am thankful that God blessed K (10) with this special moment. Never give up!

Thought Provoking

Some of our recent read alouds----

Was Crispus Attucks a patriot, or was he in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country. This is the quote from Nathan Hale that I know. I learned that it could have been, I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country. Which one is correct? Does that really matter?

I do want my kids to learn the correct version of historical events. I don't know if they can in this day and age. A lot has been revised. I hope some of them love history as much as I do. I hope that they at least have the desire to question, research, and think on their own.
