School today

We have been reading Sarah Plain, and Tall with Beyond Five in a Row. For Language Arts, we are discussing hyperbole. Trying to come up with examples was harder than I thought. Also, we are learning about alliteration. We pretended that we were thinking up headlines in the newspaper, we thought of: Polar Panic--polar bear escapes from the zoo, Fish Frenzy at the Freshwater Aquarium. Then we thought of restaurants: Spicy spaghetti is spectacular. The goal is to be able to appreciate literature as well as make their own writing more interesting.

Another Language Arts lessons was discussing Caldecott and Newbery award winning books. We pulled a few books off the shelves (Five in a Row). We looked at four Caldecott winners, and tried to figure out what medium was used.

We are also talking about water sources/praire life. I decided to pull out the book-Magic Schoolbus at the Waterworks--the kids are always asking where and how we get water. This was a rabbit trail that we followed.

In Five in a Row, we started Another Celebrated Dancing Bear. We had our intoduction to Russia. We are creating a simple lapbook-just for some things that stand out.

Introduction

Being a homeschool mom of 8, there is never a dull moment. Hopefully, I will blog these great and sometimes not so great moments. For now, we have seven at home, 18,17, 10, 9, 7, 5, and 3, and one away-recently married. Life is constantly changing, even though sometimes I wish it would stay the same. One thing for sure, I am learning lessons all the time. Maybe I can share some lessons here.
